Stepping out of the Havana airport I was struck by the beauty of the round edged old vehicles in an assortment of gum ball colors. I knew they drove antique cars in Cuba, but I didn't know that because I grew up with a father who collected antique cars, that I would feel continual jolts of excitement with every classic car I saw. The locals displayed their friendliness immediately as I got settled into my short term apartment. Within an hour I had five new friends as each neighbor came to greet me. This is how it is. With Wifi and a/c a rare thing, people turn to each other and a lot of life happens outside, as they visit, play games and work. Even as their magnificent old buildings are crumbling they are strong, innovative and welcoming.
